Introduction Rupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon (EPL) is rare.
First, wrist hyperextension resulted in contraction forces at the middle third of the ulnar shaft at the insertion sites of the extensor carpi ulnaris and extensor pollicis longus.
Accurate identification of the proximal edge of the adductor aponeurosis is followed by incision through the aponeurosis, in a manner that is parallel and palmar to the course of the extensor pollicis longus.
At the base of the first metacarpal, superficial to the extensor pollicis longus tendon, 2 mL of local anesthetic are injected.
The extensor pollicis longus and the abductor pollicis longus attached primarily to the interosseous ligament (81% and 62%, respectively).
