To the surprise of many Sierra Leoneans, petrol prices mid-December dropped nearly 10% and the price of rice by some 16%, while, according to the Bank of Sierra Leone, inflation fell to 4.
The grant will be used to provide technical assistance and training to staff of the Central Bank of Sierra Leone, in order to develop a Bank-wide information technology policy and strategy; set up record management systems and define policy and strategy to support the implementation of risk based internal audit operations.
The program focuses on the following four outputs: - Potential leaders of the microfinance industry have reached sustainability and have considerably increased their outreach;- Strategic partnerships are built with other donors in joint support of a sustainable pro-poor financial sector;- A professional microfinance unit has been established in the Bank of Sierra Leone (BoSL) to ensure an optimal enabling environment for the development of the microfinance industry and its eventual integration into the financial system; and- Sound microfinance principles have been disseminated and are widely accepted and adopted.
If implemented to the hilt, it would accelerate economic recovery," said an official of the Bank of Sierra Leone.
