What does CHM stand for?

Much needed guidance on the requirements and exemptions for the preparation of a Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) under the Aboriginal Heritage Regulations 2007 (AH Regs) has been offered in three recent Tribunal decisions: Mainstay Australia Pty Ltd v Mornington Peninsula SC & Ors (Red Dot) [2009] VCAT 145 (24 February 2009), Merrivale v Brimbank CC (RedDot) [2009] VCAT 715 (8 April 2009) and Tsourounakis v Ballarat CC (Red Dot) [2009] VCAT 905 (18 May 2009).

6) Other initiatives include the creation of checklists for cultural heritage management, preparation of archaeological sites for field training, development of a combined DOD-Archaeological Institute of America Working Group to address cultural heritage issues, development of an international military cultural heritage working group, and progress on a template for transferring archaeological Geographic Information Systems (GIS) information from universities and other sources into the command-planning GIS databases.

The focus is on turtle conservation, cultural heritage management and involving the local communities while ensuring high standards of tourism services.
