Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Coatings Deposited In Atmospheric Plasma Spraying.
Three researchers at Shizuoka University grow bismuth oxide thin films on yttria-stabilized zirconia substrate by CVD under atmospheric pressure.
It is the top specification media engineered from in-house yttria-stabilized zirconia powder.
The process uses low cost chemical precursors to nucleate and directly deposit nanoparticles of materials such as yttria-stabilized zirconia, doped lanthanum manganite or doped lanthanum chromite to form cell, interconnect and sealing layers.
Then, various thicknesses, 100, 200, 300, and 400 [micro]m of 8% yttria-stabilized zirconia TBCs were applied over NiCoCrAlY bond coating by APS technique.
The method has been used to study the effects of thermal cycling on an yttria-stabilized zirconia plasma sprayed thermal barrier coatings deposited on a nickel superalloy substrate.
Because SOFCs also operate at high temperatures, they utilize such ceramic materials as yttria-stabilized zirconia electrolytes, bipolar plates of magnesia-doped rare earths, anodes of nickel/zirconia oxide and cathodes of ceria rare earths.
