The segment responded to lower demand in the fourth quarter by reducing mill production of coated unbleached kraft (CNK(R)) by 35,000 tons compared to the prior year, which unfavorably impacted productivity.
Increasing Visibility To create Natralock, MeadWestvaco runs its unbleached kraft paperboard (Coated Natural Kraft[R] (CNK,) or Printkote[R] bleached kraft paperboard (SBS) through a patented coating process which applies a heat-seal material, as well as an optional, more tear-resistant material for high dollar value applications.
Solid bleached sulphate (SBS) and coated unbleached kraft (CUK) are typical in North America, while folding boxboard (FBB) is more typical in Western Europe.
