What does TPCI stand for?

Department of Justice's three-phased reentry approach developed as part of its Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative (SVORI) and the seven decision points identified by the National Institute of Corrections in its Transition from Prison to Community Initiative.

IDOC policies and procedures in the past have made it difficult, if not impossible, to use volunteers in the transition from prison to community phase of incarceration due to a prohibition of contact.

We were interested in the transition from prison to community and chose to study a small group of parolees intensively during the first few months following their release from prison.

Focusing on inmate transition from prison to community provides corrections the opportunity to contribute positively to public safety.

The MPRI model: * Begins with the three-phase reentry approach of the Department of Justice's Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative; * Further delineates the transition process by adding the seven decision points of the National Institute of Corrections' Transition from Prison to Community Initiative model; and * Incorporates into its approach the policy statements and recommendations from the Report of the ReEntry Policy Council coordinated by the Council of State Governments.
