The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced on January 6 that the extremely controversial Trans Texas Corridor is "dead.
According to Reuters, the Trans Texas Corridor was devised in 2002 by Governor Rick Perry and aspired to build 4,000 miles of transport corridors a quarter mile wide, which would include room for high-voltage power lines, commuter and freight rail lines, and five road lanes in each direction.
Rick Perry's long-term plans for a Trans Texas Corridor and Texas House Bill 3588, passed in June 2003, have given extra momentum to toll road growth in Texas, both to relieve congestion in metropolitan areas and to speed transit from point-to-point across the state.
We need to fix this problem, and we need to fix it right," Nichols said of the situation with the Trans Texas Corridor.
An investigation into local toll issues led to the discovery that tolls will be the funding mechanism for the larger Trans Texas Corridor (TTC), a segment of the massive NAFTA Super Highway.
