Nine of the 10 patients previously had Stage IIIb NSCLC, for which Stimuvax is now in a Phase III trial partnered with Merck.
Nine of the 10 living patients had stage IIIb NSCLC upon entry to the trial, while one had stage IV disease.
The results suggest that Stimuvax combined with best supportive care (BSC) may provide survival benefits to patients with unresectable stage IIIB NSCLC who had either responded or had stable disease after initial radio-chemotherapy, compared with patients receiving BSC alone.
Particularly encouraging survival results were seen in the subset of patients with Stage IIIB NSCLC.
In Stage IIIB NSCLC, patients typically have both bulky local-regional cancer and a high rate of occult distant micrometastases undetectable by current scanning techniques.
