Pajhwok Report - Aug 17, 2009 - 15:43 KABUL (PAN): Electoral assistance organisation Democracy International (DI) has begun to deploy its short-term observers across Afghanistan as part of a 60-person international mission to observe the countrys presidential and provincial elections, to be held on August 20.
The OSCE election observation mission comprises close to 280 observers from nearly 40 countries, including 38 long-term and some 210 short-term observers deployed by the OSCE/ODIHR, as well as 28 parliamentarians and staff from the OSCE PA.
It now has 50 short-term observers, after receiving formal accreditation from Lebanon's Ministry of the Interior and Municipalities in March.
In addition, 127 short-term observers have covered the entire territory since February 4, to observe the vote.
Radmila Sekerinska said that around 260 short-term observers, including 40 members of OSCE Interparliamentary Assembly, are expected to participate in the upcoming presidential elections.
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- Since their arrival in Haiti on Thursday February 2nd, 127 short-term observers from the International Mission for Monitoring Haitian Elections (IMMHE) have been deployed throughout the 10 departments to cover tomorrow's presidential and legislative elections.
For election day, 300 short-term observers will be requested from participating States.
Luis Eladio Arias Nunez (Dominican Republic) Long-term observer teams have been on site throughout the country since September to observe the electoral process and to ensure a safe environment for the deployment of some 130 short-term observers who will work under the auspices of the IMMHE.
