In October 2007, the journal Current Science carried out an analysis of science and technology literature in India and China as reflected by the science and the social science citation index data based.
Eligible studies were retrieved from Medline, EmBase, Science Citation Index, and the Cochrane database.

This indicator, developed by the Institute for Scientific Information (Philadelphia, PA, USA), is published annually in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) section of the Science Citation Index (SCI).
Produced by Thomson Scientific, this database grew out of the ISI Science Citation Index.
According to the social science citation index, there were barely more than 100 articles relating to terrorism published in 2001; that figure had almost trebled by the following year and has carried on rising ever since, with more than 2,300 citations recorded last year.
Unfortunately, many such citation data are not available in the Science Citation Index or in the Social Sciences Citation Index databases.
The book has subsequently been translated into 11 languages, and its interdisciplinary nature is evident by the continued research on its themes from economists, political scientists, historians, and sociologists, with over 1500 citations listed in the Social Science Citation Index.
