It also included the following measures: (1) an Independence Inventory, in which the participants ranked their independence in 12 domains of daily living (such as personal management, kitchen management, and active recreation) (Good, 2005a); (2) the Frenchay Activities Index (Holbrook & Skilbeck, 1983), which measures the frequency of meal preparation, social activities, reading, and so forth); and (3) the Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985), in which the participants agreed or disagreed with such statements as "In most ways, my life is close to the ideal.
Standardized scales included the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) [17]; the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) Motor subscale [18]; the Craig Handicap Assessment and Reporting Technique (CHART) Physical Independence, Mobility, and Occupation subscales [19]; and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) [20].
Interested participants completed a questionnaire packet consisting of the Role Balance Scale (RBS; Marks, 1994), the Job Satisfaction Blank-Revised (JSB-R; Crutchfield & Borders, 1997), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS; Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1988), and a brief demographic questionnaire.
The study was developed using a General Assessment Questionnaire, The Body Image Anxiety Scale, Body Mass Index, Satisfaction With Life Scale, The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, The General Health Questionnaire-12, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.
Burnout was measured using a composite index consisting of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (Maslach, Jackson, & Leiter, 1996), the Situational Shift Scale (Rodgerson & Piedmont, 1998), and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985).
Self-perceived satisfaction with life was assessed with the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) [21-22].
