He also outlined the range of specialist support being directed into rural areas, including an pounds 11 million market towns initiative, the introduction of rural hubs and tailored help from the Rural Regeneration Zone.
The project operates within the Rural Regeneration Zone - which covers most of Shropshire and Herefordshire and parts of Worcestershire - and is aimed at projects which might, for example, help people back into work, receive training or improve access to leisure, health and specialist services.
The facility, which has been developed in partnership with Advantage West Midlands' Rural Regeneration Zone and Evans Easyspace, currently houses more than 32 young businesses, ranging from lift maintenance experts and a technology specialist to a cafe and onsite gym.
The latest grants to be awarded, averaging pounds 20,000 each, have been made to businesses as diverse as a bakery, a campsite and a farm which are all located in AWM's Rural Regeneration Zone (RRZ).
The Rural Regeneration Zone (RRZ) Annual Conference in Ludlow on Friday also heard that community grant scheme Nexus will receive increased funding until March 2010.
The Rural Regeneration Zone covers most of the three counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.
The business is based at the Rural Enterprise Centre, in Ludlow, which is one of eight facilities being developed by Advantage West Midlands' Rural Regeneration Zone and Evans Easyspace in a bid to provide space for the region's startups and young businesses.
