Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Act, 1969 The Competition Act 2002 is intended to repeal the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Act (MRTP Act), but the substantive provisions of the new Act are not yet in force (and indeed that Act was amended by the Competition Amendment Act in 2007) and so the MRTP Act remains the relevant law for what in the UK we would call anti-competitive practices.
In general the court agreed with me that competition has been restricted in these markets but has no power to prescribe an alternative under the Restrictive Trade Practices Act.
The Restrictive Trade Practices Act, or Competition Law has been used as a price control mechanism, which, in many cases, needs to be expanded.

The consultation paper focuses on the following UK exclusions: the exclusion for vertical agreements, the exclusion for agreements given clearance under section 21(2) of the Restrictive Trade Practices Act 1976 and certain sector specific exclusions such as that for statutory audits.
