The Remote Atmospheric and Ionospheric Detection System (RAIDS), which is scheduled to fly aboard NOAA's TIROS satellite in June 1993, is a proof-of-concept experiment that will measure naturally occurring ionospheric emissions and provide data on ion and neutral atmospheric constituents on both the day and night sides of the Earth.
The Remote Atmospheric and Ionospheric Detection System (RAIDS) includes eight spectrographs, spectrometers, and photometers to comprehensively measure thermospheric and ionospheric airglow in the extreme-ultraviolet to near-infrared passband (55 to 874 nm).
