ISLAMABAD, 19 May, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Children who eat lots of fast food are more likely to experience recurrent abdominal pain than others, and this may be severe enough to interfere with school activities.
To establish a diagnosis of IBS the following standardised Rome III criteria must be met: Recurrent abdominal pain or discomfort at least 3 days per month for the past 3 months, associated with 2 or more of the following: * relief with defaecation * onset associated with a change in frequency of stool * onset associated with a change in form (appearance) of stool.
Some additional symptoms can include diarrhea, tension headaches, difficulty swallowing, numbness or tingling of the extremities, and recurrent abdominal pain.
Case Report A 19-year-old female presented to the adolescent clinic complaining of recurrent abdominal pain for two weeks.
These attempts have included efforts at managing pain associated with sickle cell crises (Cozzi, Tyron, & Sedlacek, 1987), juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (Lavigne, Ross, Berry, Hayford & Pachman, 1992), and recurrent abdominal pain (Banez & Steffen, 2001).
Patients who were hemodynamically unstable, pregnant, allergic to opioids, or who had traumatic abdominal pain, suspected abdominal aortic aneurysm, recurrent abdominal pain, or those with high clinical suspicion of ureteral colic were excluded from the study.
Also, in a pilot study by Ball, Shapiro, Monheim, and Weydert, children's recurrent abdominal pain was reduced 67 percent following the use of guided imagery (2003).
He had been suffering from recurrent abdominal pain and his GP had referred him to hospital.
