Human capital and reproductive labour in the arts There is a longstanding debate in Marxist political economy over the significance of the distinction between productive and unproductive labour (Harvie, 2006; Camara Izquierdo, 2006; Mohun, 1996), with many theorists suggesting that this dichotomy is increasingly untenable because of changes in the production and circulation of value (Dyer-Witheford, 1999; Harvie, 2006; Arvidsson, 2007; De Angelis, 2006).
