For more than a decade, NPCA/FSCT has been proactively involved in efforts to create solutions for managing post-consumer paint, through its 5-point Program for Dealing with Leftover Paint, its involvement as a part of the Paint Product Stewardship Initiative (PPSI) (see the June 2009 issue of CoatingsTech for more on PPSI) and, most recently, through advocating for legislation (see related article on this page).

Recently, the National Paint and Coatings Association (NPCA) and the Paint Product Stewardship Initiative (PPSI) joined forces to work toward the development of a nationally coordinated system for managing leftover paint.

The environmental issue

States including Washington, Oregon, and California are already seeking EPR-framework legislation in 2009, regardless of the Paint Product Stewardship Initiative (PPSI) process and signed Memorandum of Understanding which mandates and outlines the testing of a pilot program for paint.
