The Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire can be used to assess patients with low back pain by determining its impact on the activities of daily living (calculation of level of disability: point total/50 × 100 = % disability).
The Modified Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire and the Roland-Morris Low Back Pain and Disability Questionnaire are condition-specific questionnaires for low back pain (Roland and Fairbank, 2000).
In February 2001, Physical Therapy (PTJ) published "A Comparison of a Modified Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire and the Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale," by Fritz JM and Irrgang JJ.
Results will be evaluated on the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire, the Roland-Morris Low Back Pain and Disability Questionnaire, the Hannover Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire, and the Visual Analog Scale.
Patients were eligible for the study if they had symptomatic disease shown by CT or MRI scan and confirmed by diskogram, had failed 6 months of conservative treatment, had achieved a score of 30 on the Oswestry low back pain disability questionnaire, and were candidates for the anterior approach.
