ANKARA, Oct 17, 2009 (TUR) -- The Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) unanimously decided to propose to the 14th Conference of the States Parties due to take place in early December, the name of Ambassador Ahmet Uzumcu, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations office in Geneva, as the sole candidate for the post of Director-General of the Organization.
The government of Lebanon deposited its instrument of accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention with the secretary general of the United Nations," on Friday, according to a statement released by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the international agency tasked with implementing the treaty.

The year-long GAO study also reports that Russia's weapons destruction program "may be further complicated by Russia's definition of destruction, which differs from that of the United States" and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OCPW), which monitors the weapons destruction process.
Among the institutions cooperating with the CTC in achieving these goals are the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the G-8, Interpol and others.
Much of the EU work on chemical incidents has been done in close collaboration with other organizations like World Health Organization (WHO) and Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
