Specimens from an additional 111 horses were submitted by veterinarians throughout South Africa, the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute, and the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Pretoria, to the Department of Medical Virology, University of Pretoria, for investigation of febrile or nervous disease.

The frozen sera were shipped on ice to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization reference laboratory for RVFV.
