Christian Smith, a Notre Dame sociology professor and director of the National Study of Youth and Religion, told those attending one of the Deitchman Family Lectures on Religion and Modernity at the College of the Holy Cross last week that most study participants think the central principles of religion are good, but that many of them are indifferent to issues of spirituality.
