Discussion This study examined maximal voluntary isometric torque and rate of torque development, along with agonist and antagonist EMG activity, during elbow flexion and extension in prepubertal boys and men.
Testing consisted of determining maximal voluntary isometric torque from the lumbar musculature at seven angles of lumbar flexion with a MedX[TM]* lumbar extension machine.
Experimental protocol In the 1st experimental session, the potential effects of force depression and enhancement on muscle activation were studied using surface EMG during constant-torque contractions at 10% and 50% of the maximal voluntary isometric torque produced at the optimum knee angle.
