Summary: Muscat: The Labour Court reviewed 67 cases filed by employees who had been arbitrarily dismissed .
Lahore -- The whole system of labour courts and tribunals needs to be reviewed if the goal of expeditious and fair adjudication of labour cases is to be realised.
This comes after the Labour Court ruled in the company's favour and declared that the employees' demand for the N$30,000 cannot permissibly form part of any lawful industrial action, hence the strike that started on Friday, 23 September was illegal.
One of these employees (the "Employee") who did not have a driver's licence and who therefore had been dismissed, turned to her trade union (the "Union") which in turn brought a claim against the Company before the Labour Court for breach of the priority rules in Section 22 of the Employment Protection Act.
The meeting noted that with the expiry of Industrial Relation Act 2008 on April 30,2010 the functioning of the Labour Courts and National Industrial Relation Commission under the law has been nullified.
However, the Labour Court ruled in December that the dismissals were unjustified.
