What does IBM stand for?

Kyrgyzstan has embarked upon a major reform of its border security and has taken the decision to adopt an Integrated Border Management (IBM) approach to border security management.

The integrated border management, which implies 24-hour control seven days a week, is operational at the border crossings Bogorodica and Medzitlija, and a tender procedure for putting in place such facilities at the other 10 border crossings in Macedonia is in progress, then Agriculture Minister Aco Spasenoski said at the press conference held at the Bogorodica border crossing.

During five days twenty representatives of the Kyrgyz Border Service, Customs, Phyto-sanitary and Veterinary and Sanitary-Epidemiology Services working at airports in Kyrgyzstan participated in a Integrated Border Management (IBM) awareness and capacity building training workshop organised with the support of the EU-UNDP BOMCA assistance programme.

Additionally, delegations will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the draft Kyrgyz National Strategy of Implementing Integrated Border Management System, developed with the support of EU Border Management Programme for Central Asia as well as see a demonstration at the Training Centre of Border Service in Novopokrovka and a visit to the Ak-Jol Border Crossing Point.
