Brian Imus, state director of the Illinois Public Interest Research Group, released the following statement regarding the project and its environmental significance: "We've got congested airports and crammed highways that hinder travel around the Midwest, and our transportation system is overly reliant on oil, which leaves us vulnerable to unpredictable gas prices and pollution.
The questionnaire was developed with the help of eight reform organizations: the Better Government Association, Business and Professional People for the Public Interest, Chicago Appleseed Fund for Justice, Citizen Advocacy Center, Common Cause Illinois, Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, Illinois Public Interest Research Group, and Protestants for the Common Good.

CUB continues to oppose the bill, as does Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, the Environmental Law and Policy Center of the Midwest, AARP-Illinois, Citizens Action Illinois, Illinois Public Interest Research Group, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the Building Owners and Managers Association, the Illinois Environmental Council, the South Austin Coalition, Ameren, Midwest Generation, and the NAACP Illinois Chapter.
Opponents to the ComEd bill include Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Cook County States Attorney Dick Devine, CUB, the Environmental Law and Policy Center, AARP-Illinois, Citizen Action- Illinois, Illinois Public Interest Research Group, Building Owners and Managers Association, and Illinois Industrial Energy Consumers.
CUB will be joined at the news conference, and in its campaign against the ComEd bill, by a coalition of consumers groups, including the Environmental Law and Policy Center, Citizens Action and the Illinois Public Interest Research Group.
Also noted in the letter is that environmental groups, including the Sierra Club and Illinois Public Interest Research Group, dropped their opposition to the bill after language was included that directly addresses their concerns and that stipulates the uses of best practices to mitigate emissions.
