Qatar was the first country to join the World Bank s Global Gas Flaring Reduction project, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions by exercising tight control on gas flaring, which is a major contributor to the country s emissions.
The World Bank Global Gas Flaring Reduction Initiative (GGFR) highlights that in 2006 oil and gas installations flared and vented 150 billion cubic metres of natural gas.
