PESHAWAR, November 06, 2009 (Frontier Star): In view of security concerns it has been decided to beefed up the security of all bridges located in the province and Frontier Corps (FC) have been started to deploy.
According to reports, Frontier Corps personnel had arrested the Iranian guards in Jhodar town, 60 kilometres south of the Mashkhel area in Washuk district.
Paramilitary Frontier Corps in a statement also said that 30 militants were killed, but the toll could not be confirmed through independent sources as the area is under military control.
A statement from the paramilitary Frontier Corps said: "During the operation, over 50 militants were killed and several wounded.
Training the 14 battalion-size units of the Frontier Corps is expected to take at least four years, but officials would like to both speed up their counterinsurgency training and expand the schooling to the Pakistani Army, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions are preliminary and no decisions have been made.
The training effort with the (Pakistan) Frontier Corps is not a secret," said Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman, referring to a New York Times report.
The attack, on an outpost of the Frontier Corps paramilitary force in the Mohmand district, appeared to be the heaviest assault on Pakistani troops in months.
