On March 12, Professor Les Jerome, a senior instructor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary presented Healthy Communities: Some Observations and Implications between Individuals, Family, Community, and the World at a lunch and learn at the Kahanoff Centre.
Lead author Esme Fuller-Thomson, Sandra Rotman Endowed Chair in the University's Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work said that early adversities have far-reaching consequences and the average time to recovery from depression was 9 months longer for adults who had been physically abused in their childhood and about 5 months longer for those whose parents had addiction problems.
The trip follows an agreement reached by academics from the Baroda's faculty of social work and Huddersfield's school of human and health sciences during a visit to India last December.
