February 2005 saw successful test firings of Raytheon's 5-inch Extended Range Guided Munition rounds at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.
KDI has developed products for several revolutionary precision weapon systems including the Joint Standoff Weapon System (JSOW), AIM 9X Sidewinder Air-To-Air Missile System, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), Extended Range Guided Munition (ERGM) and the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile System.
Denmark was the first export customer for the United Defense 62-calibre, 5-inch (127 mm) Mk 45 Mod 4 gun mounting which is designed to take Raytheon's EX-171 Extended Range Guided Munition (Ergm) which is designed to have a range of more than 100 kilometres with a circular error probable (CEP) of less than 20 metres.
In October 2002, Interstate Electronics Corporation (IEC) announced that its Saasm-based TruTrak GPS receiver had successfully acquired and tracked nine satellites that were in view during a test of the US Navy's Extended Range Guided Munition (ERGM).
Currently, there are three pilot programs in place that will be used to determine whether SBA can work: the Air Force T-38 trainer aircraft avionics upgrade, the Army's common missile and the Navy extended range guided munition.
In addition, the company received follow-on development funding to provide GPS for the THAAD and EKV programs and initial funding for the Japanese Extended Range Guided Munition (JERGM) program.
These systems include the Joint Standoff Weapon System (JSOW), AIM 9X Sidewinder Air-To-Air Missile System, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS), Extended Range Guided Munition (ERGM) and the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile System.
The Mk 45 Mod 4 prototype incorporates strengthened structural components, a lengthened gun barrel, and newly redesigned housing, breechblock, slide, and recoil components to accommodate increased chamber pressure and greater recoil impulse required to fire the EX171 Extended Range Guided Munition (ERGM) up to 63 nautical miles.
