[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Since 1978, the Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Program (UPARR), a matching grant program of the National Park Service has been the only federal program that provides direct federal assistance to urban localities for the rehabilitation of critically needed recreation infrastructure.
Federal funding is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis in Chambers, Galveston, Hardin, Harris, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Jacinto and Tyler counties for debris removal including direct federal assistance.
Other industries closely tied to aviation have also appealed to Congress for help in recent days, suggesting they have suffered such severe losses they need direct federal assistance.
HOUSTON -- The President today made additional disaster assistance available to the State of Texas impacted by Hurricane Ike beginning on September 7, 2008, and continuing, by authorizing an extension of 100 percent Federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures (Categories A and B), including direct Federal assistance, under the Public Assistance program.
Under the President's major disaster declaration issued for the State of Texas on September 13, 2008, for Hurricane Ike, Federal funding was made available to State and local governments in the counties of Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller, and Washington Counties for debris removal (Category A) under the Public Assistance program, including direct Federal assistance.
