A VARIETY OF AIR FORCE and National Guard fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are benefiting from software that is making possible on-board, integrated defensive avionics systems.
The deficiencies include an incomplete mission planning system, a defensive avionics system that does not provide adequate information on threats to the airplane, insufficient reliability of its stealth materials and features, and the inability to operate the fleet from sites other than its main base in Missouri.
Test results of the new configuration, called CORE ECM, were published in March 1992 and showed that the CORE system failed three of the five logistics criteria established by the Air Force before testing was begun and that it "did not achieve, nor was it designed to achieve, an effective and suitable program when compared to all B-1B defensive avionics system (DAS) requirements.
