Her two school-age children - 12-year-old Jarrett, who takes online courses through Connections Academy charter school, and 10-year-old Haylley, a fifth-grader at Springfield's Moffitt Elementary - are among scores of Oregon children whose families are experiencing homelessness for the first time.
The perception that the institute would be adding another costly layer of bureaucracy sank the legislation, said Craig Butz, a consultant with Connections Academy, an online education provider that has charter schools in 15 states, including Nevada.
Created to serve students statewide, the Indiana Virtual Charter School and the Indiana Connections Academy will start with grades K-10 and K-11, respectively.
