Byline: deepak03 The Punjab Government has given green signal for the setting up of three Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in Ludhiana for the treatment untreated effluents discharged from the industrial units.

Among its salient features are a common effluent treatment plant of 60 MLD, a solid waste-to-energy (Power and Steam) 10 mn kcal/hr Incinerator, a 12 MW natural-gas-based captive power plant with co-generation of steam, rainwater harvesting, a water supply and storm water drainage system, the use of fly ash in the construction of roads and buildings and a scheme to plant 25,000 trees.

It is said that Das and Jayapal, while repairing a blocked pipeline carrying effluent to the common effluent treatment plant, fell into a tank after inhaling toxic fumes.

Referring to environment pollution, the minister said that feasibility for common effluent treatment plants have been completed and PC-1 was ready to get funding for this project in next year s budget.
