What does CFS stand for?

According to the Canadian Federation of Students website, education for Aboriginal and Inuit students from elementary through post-secondary is a treaty right recognized in the Constitution Act of 1982.

Students on half a dozen campuses across Canada, at the Universities of Capilano (Vancouver North), Guelph and McGill, Calgary, Lakehead (Thunder Bay, ON) and others, are standing their ground for freedom of speech against the boorishness and anti-democratic bullying of the Canadian Federation of Students and their local obsequious followers (see pages 15-20).

We also worked in partnership with four post-secondary student associations--the Canadian Federation of Students, the Federation etudiante universitaire du Quebec, the New Brunswick Student Alliance, and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations--to develop a poster for display on campuses across Canada.

The campaign has received broad support from students, and has recently been endorsed by the United States Student Association and the Canadian Federation of Students.

Those experts and leaders were Chief Gilbert Whiteduck of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation in Quebec, Grand Chief Rose Laboucan of the Driftpile Cree Nation in Alberta, Nathan Matthew who is an Aboriginal Education leader Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia, Vice Chief Lyle Whitefish of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, and Mike White of the National Aboriginal Caucus of the Canadian Federation of Students.

According to the Canadian Federation of Students, in 2003 the average student debt after four years of post-secondary education was $25,000, but once you factor in interest payments a $25,000 loan is really a $33,000 loan.
