Following the hunt, Nancy Smogar, ODFW's Becoming an Outdoors Woman coordinator, confirmed to Fund program coordinator Norm Phelps that the ODFW "withdrew all support," and provided no assistance to the Hound Club beyond the use of the Wildlife Area.
Special attractions will include the National Bird Dog Bonanza presented by Nestle's Purina PetCare, the Landowner Habitat Help Desk, and a variety of seminars covering topics ranging from dog training to picking a pup, wildlife habitat planting to upland hunting tips, and wild game cooking to becoming an outdoors woman.
Ellie Horwitz confides that before she retired, she successfully encouraged many women to deer hunt here in the increasingly popular Becoming an Outdoors Woman program.
The class has been offered for six years, and was created because women who participated in Becoming an Outdoors Woman wanted to bring their children along.
In fact, the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program - which began in 1990 in Wisconsin - is now offered in several other countries, in addition to more than 40 states.
