Summary: At its meeting in Washington last week the Public Interest Oversight Board approved the appointment of Mr Paul Koster, Chief Executive of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) as a member of an influential advisory board of two key international accounting bodies, the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the International Ethics Standards Board (IESB).

The International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board has revised the international standards requiring management to provide auditors with a clear written statement that auditors have received all the information they need International Standard on Auditing 580 (Revised and Redrafted), Written Representations, requires the auditor to request management to provide written representations that it has fulfilled its responsibility for the preparation and presentation of the financial statements, has provided the auditor with all the relevant information, and that all transactions have been recorded and are reflected in the financial statements.
The 2007 revision also considered standards established by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB).
The AICPA, the American Accounting Association and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board have joined forces to launch a research initiative that will provide a better understanding of users' perceptions of the financial statement audit and the auditor's report.
