The Palestinian Bar Association and the Arab Liberation Front joined protesters who said what Zaidi did had great symbolic meaning.
Throughout the 1970s Saddam's anti-Israel rhetoric continued, along with his hounding of Iraqi Jews and his support for the Arab Liberation Front, a militant Palestinian group that shelled Israel from southern Lebanon.

NOTE: * The Palestinian groups opposed to the accord are Hamas, Islamic Jihad in Palestine, Saiqa, Fatah-Intifada, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Arab Liberation Front, the Palestinian Liberation Front, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (General Command) and the Popular Struggle Front.
Iraq also continued to provide safe haven to some Palestinian groups such as the Iraq-created Arab Liberation Front and Abu Abbas's Palestinian Liberation Front (PLF), responsible for the Achille Lauro hijacking in 1985.
